For the past decade, I have embraced decorating our home with a homemade, natural, and simple approach. During the holiday season, I enjoy handcrafting garlands and Christmas ornaments. Over the years, I have made pom-pom, cranberry, pop corn, felt, pine cone, and fresh evergreen garlands, and all kinds of Christmas ornaments. I find many advantages to making our own holiday decorations. It is inexpensive, eco-friendly, we create wonderful memories as a family, and we don't have bins of stuff to store each year.
One of my favorite Christmas ornaments we have made are these pure white baking soda and cornstarch ornaments.
Here is how to make these simple ornaments:

BAKING SODA AND CORNSTARCH CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS
2 cups baking soda
1 cup cornstarch
1 1/4 cup water
Combine baking soda and cornstarch in a medium pot. Add water and mix well.
Place the pot over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture starts to thicken. When you reach a 'mashed potatoes' consistency, remove from heat.
Form the dough into a ball and cover it with a damp cloth. Let it cool for 15 minutes.
Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Using holiday cookie cutters, cut out shapes.
Gently poke a hole at the top of each ornament with a drinking straw. Let your ornaments air dry for 24 hours, flipping them once.
Voilà! Beautiful homemade ornaments that will add a little magic to your décor this Christmas!
With love and gratitude,
Marie-Hélène
